Would you like to become a Habitat Homeowner?
Do you want to buy a simple, decent, affordable home? Are you interested in helping to build your own home? Habitat for Humanity of Washington County is looking for qualified, low-income families who are in need of decent, affordable homes. Applicants who are interested in buying a home through HFHWC must attend a Homeowner Orientation session where staff and volunteers will explain our mission, the criteria used to select potential homeowners, the application process, and more.
Family Selection Criteria
Applicants must meet all criteria to qualify:
- You must be a legal resident.
- You have lived or worked in Washington County for one year.
- You have been on your current job for a minimum of six months.
- Your living conditions are inadequate, substandard, unsafe, or overcrowded.
- You have good references.
- You are willing to work the required "sweat equity" hours helping to build your own home and other partner family homes.
- You are willing to attend homeowner education and financial management classes.
- Your family meets HUD low-income guidelines (see chart below).
To qualify for a Habitat for Humanity home, the household income must fall between 30%-60% of the HUD median income guidelines. Median Income for 2010 has been established as $55,000 for a 4 person household. Your household income must include the total gross family income (before taxes are taken out).

Please note, we need all information marked with asterisks, from all potential applicants that will be living in the home, over the age of 18. Otherwise, all documentation is needed.
- Birth Certificates for every family member
- Social Security Cards for every family member
- Marriage certificates *
- Divorce decrees*
- Current credit report *
- Two month's proof of rent payment receipts*
- Last two month's pay stubs*
- Last two month's Social Security pay stubs*
- Documentation of car payments (all cars)*
- Documentation of student loan payments (all loans)*
- Proof of insurance policies*
- Last two year's Federal Income tax returns*
- Documentation of all current utility bills*
- Current and previous addresses (within past two years)*
- Current and previous landlords (within past two years)*
- Name and address of current and previous employers (must be at current employer for at least 6 months to qualify)*
- Documentation of Alimony, food stamps, social security, disability, child support*
- Documentation of current and one month's previous assets (bank statements, 401K, retirement accounts, etc)*
- Detailed list of all debts (names, addresses, phone numbers, account numbers, balances due)*
