Homeownership -- A Hand Up, Not A Handout

Through tax-deductible donations of money and material, by utilizing volunteer labor and with the help of future homeowners (partner families), HFHWC builds and rehabilitates decent, affordable homes. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and are financed with affordable zero percent interest mortgages. The homeowner's monthly mortgage payments are paid back into a revolving "fund for humanity" account which is used to build more homes in Washington County for eligible homeowners.

DONATING OPPORTUNITIES

Haiti

Habitat for Humanity International has a goal of assisting 50,000 families affected by the tragic January 12 earthquake in Haiti. As they did in response to the 2005 hurricane in Louisiana, HFH-International will have a specifically dedicated staff for the next 3 to 5 years working toward achieving our goal in Haiti. If you are interested in helping with this effort you can make a donation to our affiliate either by check or through our "Donate Online" button, which uses Pay Pal. Donations can also be made directly to HFH-Iternational, mailed to HFHI/Tithe/Haiti Recovery, 121 Habitat Street, Americus, GA 31709.

A new IRS law allows you to choose to deduct certain charitable contributions of money on your 2009 tax `return` instead of your 2010 return. The contributions must have been made after January 11, 2010, and before March 1, 2010, for the relief of victims in areas affected by the January 12, 2010, earthquake in Haiti. To itemize charitable contributions, you must itemize deductions on Schedule A (Form 1040) or Schedule A (Form 1040NR).
